Burma, now referred to as Myanmar by the countries military leaders,Tourist have only been able to travel through the country in recent years. An international boycott still exist, so no ATM's or international banks. We must take US funds and exchange with the locals. However, we have heard nothing but wonderful positive things about the people.Some say its like Asia 100 years ago. Travel is restricted but we will travel by local transport, the odd in country air flight, trains and buses. We plan to hire a guide and trek thru the mountains. Myanmar, has been described by fellow travelers as totally safe.<br />The second half of our trip will take us back to Bangkok on Feb 1st and next day flight to Penang Malaysia.This region of Malaysia borders southern Thailand with the Island of Sumatra Indonesia near by. Georgetown, a world heritage town is the focus for the Island of Penang.
